Office of Student Financial Aid & Student Employment Federal Work Study Program The Federal Work-Study Program is a federally funded, campus-based aid program designed to provide part-time jobs for eligible students with financial need. Jobs are located both on and off-campus. Students are paid at least minimum wage, but some positions pay a higher wage. Students will work around their class schedules.
Students receive a pay check for hours worked bi-weekly. Since this award is earned through employment, any fees owed The University of Akron will not be deducted from wages earned through the Federal Work-Study Program.
To participate, students must be enrolled at least half time (6 credit hours) each semester they are employed. Students may not exceed their award amount and work hours may not exceed 30 hours per week. Job opportunities are available in nearly every department at the University.
We will make every reasonable effort to assist awarded students to find a Federal Work Study position, however, students are not guaranteed employment in a Federal Work Study position.
To be considered for the Federal Work Study Program you must have a grade point average of 2.25; have financial need; and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and have it at the federal processors no later than 3/1 each year.
The Office of Student Financial Aid & Student Employment will send an Award Notification to eligible students with instructions for securing a job.
One of the benefits of this program is that though the earnings received are taxable income, they are excluded from consideration as income on the FAFSA for the following year.
