Internal Funding Opportunities
Graduate Assistantships
Graduate assistantships are contracts between the University and the student whereby the graduate student works a specified number of hours per week, and in return is granted tuition remission and a modest stipend. Click here to for more information about graduate assistantships.
Internships
The Department of Geography and Planning at The University of Akron runs an active internship program; placing graduate and undergraduate students in challenging internships in Northeast Ohio, and some outside the state during summer session. Students are currently interning at City of Akron Planning and Development, Davey Resource Group, Stark County Regional Planning Agency, The University of Akron's physical facilities, police department, and library system, LEEDCo, and Asian Inc.. Students work at a variety of tasks including urban planning, neighborhood stabilization, mapping and GIS, public policy, stormwater management, and research. The experience as a student intern is often invaluable in securing permanent employment in the geography field after graduation.

APA Scholarships and Fellowships
American Planning Association awards are made to students currently enrolled in degree programs in planning or a closely related field.
are Congressional Fellowships for Urban Planning & Community Livability - recipients spend six months working in government in Washington, D.C.
