Workshops

The Office of Graduate Student Research provides 60-minute workshops for students who may desire a more in-depth explanation or exploration of specific areas, for the enhancement of professional, academic and personal development. Review the brief descriptions of each workshop. All workshops are free of charge for University of Akron students.

What is Graduate School?
This workshop will assist students in defining and understanding the benefits of graduate level education, specific to their particular field of study and career goals.

Responsible Conduct of Research
This workshop will introduce students to the necessary components of conducting research responsibly i.e. the responsibility of a research to his/her subjects, field of study, discipline specific code of ethics, etc.

How to Develop Research
This workshop will review the fundamental steps of developing a research idea into a thorough research report of publishable quality.

Technical Writing for Research
This workshop will help to prepare students for writing clear and concise research reports of publishable quality.  

Professional Development
This workshop will help students identify and enhance the professional skills (i.e. interviewing, resume writing, networking) necessary for obtaining success in the workforce and/or in the pursuit of advanced degree(s).

Personal Development
This workshop will help students identify skills necessary for creating a healthy life balance.

Proposal Writing 
This will workshop will help students identify the essential components to develop a comprehensive research proposal in order to begin conducting research and or to submit for research support funding.

Researching Grant Opportunities
This workshop will help students gain basic skills for locating, and securing local and national funding to support the completion of valuable research.

Innovation and Entrepreneurship
This workshop will focus on helping students understand the fundamental steps for fully developing their career goals and unique ideas.

GRE Preparation
This workshop will provide an overview of the Graduate Records Exam (i.e. purpose, fees, scheduling, etc.) along with techniques for successfully earning a competitive score. 

Funding for Graduate Study
This workshop will help students gain basic skills for locating, and securing local and national funding to support the completion of graduate programs.
