"Whether or not you reach your goals in life depends entirely on how well you prepare for them and how badly you want them. You're eagles! Stretch your wings and fly to the sky." Ronald E. McNair
Welcome to the McNair Scholars Program
College students who are considering study beyond the baccalaureate level can realize their dreams through the McNair Scholars Program at The University of Akron. Our goal is to help economically disadvantaged, first generation, and underrepresented undergraduates pursue graduate education through advising and mentoring, research and professional conference experiences, seminars and workshops.
The program seeks to attract undergraduates interested in the STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Medically Related Disciplines). We SPECIFICALLY target BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY, and PHYSICS students, as well as STEMM related Social Sciences.

A particular focus of the McNair program is providing research opportunities for students. Students are paired with faculty mentors who are able to facilitate each student’s academic goals. Each year, McNair Scholars participate in academic year and summer activities that include preparation for graduate school selection, the application process, the graduate records examination, learning strategies, and research.
