STARS Faculty Mentor Award


The STARS Program was created by the Ohio Board of Regents to help motivate and prepare high achieving underrepresented students for successful graduate school participation and ultimately the professorate ranks. Since the inception of the program mentors have assumed a critical role in fulfilling this mission. The role of mentors has, at a minimum, inlcuded facilitating the requierd student research project and shepherding the graduate school application process. However, many mentors have exceeded minimum expectations and have significantly impacted the success of student' achievement in postgraduate programs.

Dr. Jean Pan was nominated by three STARS students for the award. According to Dr. Cheri Westmoreland from the University of Cincinnatti, this was the first year a professor had been nominated that many times!
