The University of Akron
Graduate Committee for Research On Women/Gender
Third Biannual Graduate Gender Symposium
March, 31-April 1, 2010
Artist:Kristin Hoppe, "Hidden Squares"
G-CROW at The University of Akron, located in Northeast Ohio (35 minutes south of Cleveland), is pleased to announce our Third Biannual Graduate Gender Symposium, showcasing graduate scholarship in all fields of women’s studies and research on gender. Our theme, “Local to Global,” is purposively a broad and inclusive one, in order to provide opportunities for graduate students working on a variety of topics and within many disciplinary approaches to present their work exploring the various and often contested meanings of gender, past and present.
The symposium will kick off at 5 pm on Wed, March 31st with a presentation by Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Kathy Kelly. We imagine that her lecture will be of particular interest to students of law, international relations, and human rights, as well as everyone committed to peace and justice.
This will be followed by dinner and a performance by the New York City Def Poetry artist, Staceyann Chin. We are hoping the inclusion of this performance artist will encourage students in the fields of fine arts, cultural studies, and humanities to participate in the symposium as presenters.
Both events are free and dinner that night will be provided for symposium participants.
Presentations will be held April 1 & 2, 8:00 - 5:00
Martin Center Knight Rooms
This event is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
