The 2nd Graduate Gender Symposium showcases graduate
student scholarship which seeks to explore and understand the various and often
contested meanings of gender. This conference brings together graduate students
from around the region to present and discuss their work across diverse
methodologies and disciplinary perspectives. The Graduate Committee for Research
on Women/Gender at the University of Akron provides a supportive environment in
which to create and sustain a community of graduate student preparing for
life-long careers as scholars and teachers dedicated to critically analyzing
gender and its discontents.
The Graduate Gender Symposium will be held on the campus of the University of
Akron, Akron, Ohio on April 3rd and 4th. The keynote speaker for the symposium
is the esteemed
Dr. Judith Lorber, Professor Emerita, Brooklyn College
and Graduate School, CUNY. She will present her keynote address on the evening
of April 3rd with a more informal address to graduate students on April 4th.
The organizers welcome submission of theoretical, empirical and/or applied work
from graduate students. Abstract submissions are due no later than February
15th, 2008. Presenters will be notified of acceptance no later than February
29th, 2008. The abstract should be 300 words or less and should be submitted to:
