What is UAET?

The University of Akron Equestrian Team (UAET) is a club sport at The University of Akron. It is open to all full time students. The English Team was formed in the Spring of 2002 and the Western Team was formed in the Fall of 2006.

Do I need to own a horse?

No. Horses and tack are provided by the barn at all lessons and by the hosting college at the IHSA shows.

What if I've never ridden a horse before?

There is no experience necessary to join the team. In fact, we encourage riders of all levels to join.

What expenses are there?

At this time, the individual rider pays team dues, and if showing, the cost of lessons, IHSA fees, and a coaching fee for the horse shows attended.

How often would I ride?

We recommend at least once a week. All lessons are an hour long. In order to show, the rider must have at least two lessons a month as a minimum.

What is IHSA?

IHSA stands for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association and is a national organization. It allows us to compete with other colleges in our region, such as Ohio State, Kent State, and Ohio University. Qualifying teams and riders may advance on to semi-finals and nationals to compete with teams across the country.

What disciplines are offered?

IHSA events include Western Horsemanship, Reining, English Equitation, and Over Fences.

Could I join both the English and Western Teams?

Yes, we actually have riders that ride in both disciplines and we would encourage you to ride for both teams if you would have the interest.
