Western Riding
The Western Team participates in two different riding events. These two events are Western Horsemanship and Reining.
Horsemanship can be described as - a western class designed to evaluate the rider's ability to execute, in concert with the horse, a set of maneuvers prescribed by the judge with precision and confidence while maintaining a correct body position.
Reining can be described as - a demonstration of how the rider can move the horse through a particular pattern at the gallop, or more commonly known as a fast canter. This particular type of riding demonstrates the ability of the ranch horse. Movements include slow and fast circles, lead changes, spins, and the crowd’s favorite, the sliding stops.
Lessons
Riders on the Western Team are required to take a lesson a week during our show season. The cost of lessons is $30.00 per lesson.
Divisions of Riders
The IHSA is designed for riders with all levels of experience. The different divisions are as follows:
Beginner
Intermediate
Novice
Advanced
Open
Riders in each division will compete against other riders from our region in western horsemanship. Riders who qualify for the open division will have the opportunity to show in an open reining class. (The qualifications for divisions can be found in our important document section on our website under the IHSA guidelines).
*Riders from all divisions have the ability to take reining lessons from our coach, but only those that qualify for the open division will be able to show in the open reining class*
2006-2007 Western Team Show Results
The Western Team placed fourth out of six teams at the first show at LEC.
At the Second show day of the season, we placed third place in both shows out of seven teams. Congratulations, team!! The next show will be at Ohio State on March 4th and our team is currently ranked third in our region.
The third show of the season went pretty well for the team. We were missing some team members, but the remainder of the team still did a good job. We have a great opportunity to be an extremely competitive team next year, especially if we can fill some more of the divisions with more riders!
2007-2008 Western Team Show Results
The Western Team was the Reserve Champion Team for the region during this season.
Ashley Fuchs qualified as an individual rider in the Open Reining class to Regionals and Semi-Finals.
Michael Pancoe qualified as an individual rider in the Alumni Reining class to Regionals, Semi-Finals and Nationals.
