2011 Projects
SAA has adopted Special Olympics Healthy Hearing (SOHH) program as their national service project. This year our chapter along with other Ohio chapters volunteered to perform hearing screenings at the Ohio Summer Games held at the Ohio State University campus. Healthy hearing was a success with 136 individuals screened this year! More information on the Special Olympics can be found at the Speical Olympics website.

In October SAA members passed out 400 earplugs at the Ohio University vs. Akron University football game!

2010 Projects
We've donated canned food Akron’s Haven of Rest, and had a very successful Hearing Conservation presentation at Imagine School in Akron Ohio.
A few other projects we are planning include:

- Food drive, clothing drive, and penny drive
- Ronald McDonald House
- Giving Christmas gifts for families
- Collecting pop tabs
- Volunteering at a soup kitchen
- Make a Difference Day

- Two of our students, Chelsea Dieck and Natalie Bevilacqua will be volunteering to go on mission trip through the Hear the World non-profit organization to Beverly, Kentucky November 10-13, 2010.
This mission trip is in partnership with the Red Bird Mission in a remote area of Appalachia, which consists of three of the poorest counties in the United States.
During this trip, we will be testing hearing and fitting and troubleshooting hearing aids for an elderly population that, under normal circumstances, would not have the financial or geographical means to receive hearing health-care.

More information will be posted shortly on these and other projects planned for this year!

Canned Food Drive

Thank you to everyone who donated cans for the food drive! We were able to donate over 500 items between the Bread of Life Church in Kent, and the
Domestic Violence Project Shelter
in Canton

Free Hearing Screenings at with MedWorks

SAA members assisted MedWorks and Northeast Ohio Neighborhood Health Services, Inc. (NEON) to provide audiologic services for MedWorks' sixth free healthcare (medical and dental) clinic on November 6-7, 2010.

Make A Difference Day!

In October team NOAC participated in the university of Akron's Make A Difference day. We helped by writing letters to our troops to show our support! A big thank you to everyone that participated!

Race for the Cure!

- Team NOAC partcipated in the annual Susan G. Komen Northeast Ohio Race for the Cure September 11th in downtown Cleveland.
We had an awesome Team this year and raised $1,095, all funds will go towards research for breast cancer

Hearing Conservation!

- In March, students from SAA presented a hearing conservation program targeted towards children in third grade at Imagine Elementary School. Activities included a powerpoint presentation on the anatomy of the auditory system and the effects of noise-induced hearing loss, as well as hands-on activities with sound level meters and tuning forks! The program was concluded by playing the song "Turn it to the Left!" to remind the children to reduce the amount of noise exposure and preserve their healthy hearing!

2008 Projects

On October 25, 2008 NAFDA participated in the fourth annual Make a Difference Day. More than 500 volunteers joined together to make a difference in University Park and surrounding communities in Akron. NAFDA along with other volunteers made a difference by serving the community through services such as helping the elderly and disabled with home repairs, cleaning and landscaping throughout Akron communities, improving local parks, assisting local non-profit agencies, and much more.

In November NOAC donated non-perishable food items to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank.

The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank Mission Statement:
"We believe that no one should have to go hungry in our "land of plenty." Children shouldn't have to go to bed hungry; families shouldn't have to decide between buying food and paying rent; and seniors shouldn't have to choose between paying for medication and having a warm meal to eat....Ending hunger is more than just our mission; it's something we strive to do everyday. It's a pledge we have made to our community to end hunger in Summit, Stark, Portage, Medina, Wayne, Holmes, Tuscarawas and Carroll counties. In 2007, the Foodbank distributed over 12 million pounds of food and provided meals for over 163,000 people in need in Northeast Ohio."

2007 Projects

The NOAC NAFDA humanitarian committee went to 3 local schools in Summit County to teach 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade children about Noise-induced hearing loss. The presentation went over the science of sound, the anatomy of the ear, decibels, and how to protect your ears from loud noises. Through interactive demonstrations, the children got to see how loud sounds damaged the ear's hair cells and what environmental sounds can be unsafe.

Second year NOAC students Audra Brooks, Tammy Waybright, and Cherysse Lanns volunteered at the Dec. 2007 Craniofacial Clinic Christmas party at Akron Children's Hospital. 17 NAFDA members also contributed by donating games and toys to give as gifts to the children of the Craniofacial Clinic Families.

2006 Projects

NOAC students participated in the annual Akron Children's Craniofacial Christmas party (Dec. 2006). Volunteers were NOAC students Kristina Petriatis, Amy Murphy, Katrina Bowden, Megan Wightman, and Cherysse Lanns. Also, many NAFDA members donated over $100 in gifts for the children of the craniofacial clinic families.
