Ceridian is the administrator of the University’s COBRA insurance program.  COBRA provides the option to purchase and continue insurance coverage from the University during certain eligibility periods to previously covered individuals (i.e.: former employees and their dependents, overage children, divorced spouses.) 

By registering on Ceridian’s Benefits Services web site, COBRA participants can:

  • Make COBRA elections
  • Submit payments

COBRA, or the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act, provides certain former employees, retirees, spouses, former spouses, and dependent children the right to temporary continuation of health coverage at group rates. This coverage, however, is only available when coverage is lost due to certain specific events. Group health coverage for COBRA participants is significantly more expensive than health coverage for active employees, since UA pays the majority of the cost for active full-time employees; COBRA participants pay the entire premium plus a 2% administrative fee.

2. COBRA Rates for Medical, Dental and Vision Plans 
This rate sheet is maintained by The University of Akron and updated annually. 

3.  Sample COBRA Eligibility Enrollment Letter from Ceridian  
This letter is automatically mailed by Ceridian to all new plan participants notifying them that they are eligible.

4. Sample COBRA Election Notification Letter from Ceridian  
This letter is automatically mailed by Ceridian to plan participants when they are no longer eligible for group insurance.
