WELCOME!

The University of Akron is pleased to provide a high quality group-insurance package for full-time faculty, staff and contract professionals.

Open enrollment for employee benefits for the 2010 calendar year will begin Monday, November 9 and will end on Wednesday, November 18th, 2009 at 5p.m..

For AAUP employees, open enrollment for benefits runs from Friday, November 20th through Friday, November 27th at 7:00am..

Below are some key points about this year’s open enrollment:
  • Medical insurance costs will increase about 8% next year. The university will continue the 85%-15% premium contribution structure (the University pays 85%, employees collectively 15%). To achieve this balance, the employee contribution must be adjusted. The new rates can be found here
  • A dependant audit will be conducted during the first quarter of 2010. More information is below.
  • There are no carrier changes this year. Employees will select from the same carriers available last year.
  • If you take no action during the enrollment period, your 2009 elections will be carried over to 2010, with the exception of Flexible Spending Account participation. Flexible Spending Account participation will be cancelled. Again this year, enrollment is being offered securely on the Web via eBenefits. To enroll online:
    1. Go to Zipline and log in.
    2. Click on the Faculty/Staff tab.
    3. In the Employee Services box, select Benefits.
    4. Choose Benefits Enrollment.
The university will be conducting a dependant audit to verify dependant eligibility. You should have received a mailing in August outlining this information. The university will be offering a second amnesty period during open enrollment. Please use this time to remove any ineligible dependants from insurance plans. Staff members from Benefits Administration will be available to answer enrollment questions from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays during open enrollment. You may stop by our offices in the Administrative Services Building or schedule an appointment by calling 330-972-7092.

    CHOICES AVAILABLE

The University allows employees to tailor their benefit needs. For 2010, you have your choice among the following coverages:
