The safety and security of personnel, students and visitors is of vital importance to The University of Akron. Human Resources has implemented a policy and companion procedures to describe the UA's position on workplace violence and threats of violence, including domestic violence, in University facilities and on University property and identify University resources and programs to deal with such eventualities.
It is the intent of the University through this policy, procedures, and practices to reduce the potential for:
The University will not tolerate acts of workplace violence committed by or against employees, students, visitors or third parties on University owned properties while conducting university business at any locations, including representing the university at off-site meetings. Violation of this policy may subject individuals to discipline, up to and including termination from employment or dismissal from the University pursuant to the applicable University, Civil Service or collective bargaining procedures. Any individual engaging in prohibited conduct under this policy is also subject to legal action/criminal prosecution as appropriate.
Human Resources will make counseling, direction, and education regarding violence, threats of violence, and prevention of violence available to managers and employees. To supplement and enhance these services, the Workplace Violence Assessment Team will provide a thorough investigation into incidents of threatening or violent conduct in order to resolve the situation, make appropriate referrals for victims and perpetrators, and make recommendations for further action.
