Integrated Bioscience Participating Faculty

Although not officially required, it is in the best interest of the prospective student to contact one or more potential faculty mentors before applying for the IB PhD program. Such a contact is useful to note whether a desired faculty has an opening in their lab in the year the student is interested applying. Additionally, individual faculty members may have their own sources of research funding that could open extra avenues of funding for the student, such as a grant-funded research assistantship. Finally, interested faculty can help facilitate your application process, which can be especially important if you need a speedy admissions decision because of competing offers, etc. For all the above reasons, it is wise to email individual faculty that you may be interested in working with to find out if they are available as mentors.
