MLK Activities Fair

Area youngsters have fun during a recent Martin Luther King Jr., Activities Fair on The University of Akron campus.

The University of Akron will host its annual Martin Luther King Jr., Activities Fair on Monday, Jan. 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. Opening remarks will be made by President Scott L. Scarborough.

This event enables the community to observe the Martin Luther King Holiday as a “day on” rather than a “day off.” It also serves as an opportunity to introduce the University community to children in grades K-12 and their families through a variety of fun and educational activities.

Community and student organizations will provide the activities and information that encourage nonviolence, civic responsibility, respect for differences and the importance of education. Activities will include the following:

  • Biographic information on Martin Luther King Jr.
  • Historical information on the Civil Rights Movement
  • Martin L. King Jr. pictorial gallery and other visual displays
  • Performances
  • Arts and crafts
  • Information about various organizations

The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Multicultural Center, the Women's & Gender Resource Center and the Office of Inclusion & Equity.
