THOUGH VOTERS often seek guidance from friends, family and pundits, there is one source of counsel held by many in the highest regard — God.
Dr. John Green, distinguished professor of political science at The University of Akron, will answer the question “How does God want you to vote?” at an interfaith community event from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the First Congregational Church of Akron, 292 E. Market St., adjacent to the UA campus.
Following a 30-minute lecture in which Green will address the relationship between religious principles and politics, he will take part in an interfaith panel discussion moderated by Dr. Jay Groat, senior pastor of the First Congregational Church of Akron.
Panelists include:
- Dr. Ghulam N. Mir, president of the Islamic Society of Akron and Kent;
- Rev. Sandra Selby, associate pastor of the Furnace Street Mission and adjunct instructor, Methodist Theological School in Ohio;
- Dr. Surinder Bhardwaj, priest, Hindu community representative, Akron Area Interfaith Council, and professor emeritus, Kent State University; and
- Father Joseph T. Hilinski, pastor of St. Barbara Parish and delegate for ecumenical and interfaith affairs of the Diocese of Cleveland.
