New degree in organizational supervision

06/10/2010

A new bachelor’s degree in organizational supervision will be offered by The University of Akron’s Summit College starting fall semester 2010.

The program is designed for students with either an associate degree or a significant number of credit hours. The new offering, according to Stan Silverman, dean of Summit College, creates an opportunity for students to advance professionally within their chosen field.

Career advancement possible

“This degree will allow students to progress in their careers and to bring additional competencies to their employers. We created a baccalaureate that augments the associate’s degree, enabling students to complete a bachelor’s degree in two years,” Silverman says.

The major consists of 10 courses at the junior/senior level. In addition, students will need to complete the University’s general education requirements.

“The program is industry- and student-inspired,” says Silverman. “There are many associate’s degree graduates who have been in their careers for a number of years and are seeking career advancement. This program provides that opportunity.”

Beginning with evening classes this fall, the program will be offered at UA’s main campus and at its Wayne College campus in Orrville. Daytime and online courses will be added in the future.
