UA’s Z-TV earns third Emmy in five years

The University of Akron's student-run television station, Z-TV, won an Emmy award in a ceremony held June 18 by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) in Cleveland, Ohio.

Z-TV's "Akron After Hours," a sketch comedy show, earned the Emmy in the Lower Great Lakes chapter of NATAS' competition for programs produced in 2010. This marks the third win for Z-TV since 2006. Z-TV has been nominated for Emmy awards 12 times since 2005.

Z-TV is partnered with WZIP-FM, the nation's top-rated student-run radio station. Both are part of The University of Akron’s School of Communication.

"Akron After Hours" has won 10 national awards since 2006, and won its first Emmy award in 2009.

Alumni from the show and the UA School of Communication have gone on to work for "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno, "The Late, Late Show" with Craig Ferguson, Tribeca Films and NBC Universal in Los Angeles.

The University of Akron's Z-TV programming is seen on Time Warner Cable of Northeast Ohio and at Akron After Hours.
