The Honors College will recognize the four recipients of the Distinguished Honors Alumni Award on Friday, April 25, at 7:30 a.m. on the fifth floor of InfoCision Stadium.
Jason D. Braddock, who graduated with bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and education in 2006 and a master’s in education in 2011, worked as a high school math teacher before becoming, in 2012, the instructional consultant and STEM coordinator for middle and high school mathematics for the Mahoning County Education Service Center of Youngstown, Ohio.
As the STEM consultant for Mahoning County, Braddock works with area businesses, industry partners, government and higher education institutions to promote K-12 STEM education, with a special focus on the manufacturing and energy industries.
Steven Brubaker, who earned his bachelor’s degree in finance in 1992, began his career at InfoCision Management Corporation in 1985 and currently serves as its chief of staff. He has been a generous patron to the University, and serves on several of its boards, including the Executive Advisory Board for the Taylor Institute for Direct Marketing and The University of Akron Foundation Board.
Brubaker frequently speaks at national and international industry events and has received numerous awards, including, in 2006, the Lifetime Achievement Award from Technology Marketing Corporation, and, in 2012, UA’s Dr. Frank L. Simonetti Distinguished Business Alumni Award.
Theresa Morelli, who received her bachelor’s in education in 1984 and Juris Doctor in 1989, worked for several law firms until becoming, in 2012, the current managing counsel of residential management at Forest City Enterprises, where she provides comprehensive counsel on housing and property management issues.
She also has served as an adjunct instructor at several colleges, presented and published papers on legal and health matters, and appeared on NBC News, PBS, public radio, CNN and "Good Morning America" as an advocate for persons affected by genetic discrimination.
Morelli has helped fund the Akron Experience Scholarship Fund, the Honors College Alumni Endowed Scholarship and the School of Law’s Dean’s Club.
Allison Tillinger earned bachelor’s degrees in art history and history at UA in 2002, and a master’s in art history at George Washington University in 2006. She then worked separate stints at the Akron Art Museum and Cleveland Museum of Art, where she is currently the engagement specialist, responsible for developing events and activities to engage prospective donors.
As an undergraduate, Tillinger served as an administrative assistant in what was then the Honors Program, and was the onetime president of the Honors Club. She has continued her involvement in the Honors College, serving as president (2009-2011) and then as development committee chairwoman (2011-2013) of the Honors College Alumni Board.
