Professor honored for outstanding contribution to aerospace

Dr. Wieslaw Binienda


University of Akron professor and chairman of the Department of Civil Engineering, Dr. Wieslaw K. Binienda, is the 2011 Outstanding Technical Contribution Award recipient from the Aerospace Division of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Binienda accepted the award at the Aerospace Division’s Earth and Space 2012 Conference in April in Pasadena, Calif.

One of the highest honors for the Aerospace Division, this recognition is awarded to an individual who has contributed substantially to advancing the state of the art in aerospace engineering, sciences and technology, and space exploration and construction with application to civil engineering.

Binienda has received several awards, fellowships and certificates for his professional expertise. In 2010, he was awarded the American Society of Civil Engineers Outstanding Professional Award and The Louis A. Hill Jr. Fellowship for his distinguished record of community leadership, service and philanthropy. Among his many credentials, Binienda is the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Aerospace Engineering.
