09/19/2012

Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron is opening the doors of its new headquarters for a community open house on Friday, Sept. 28, from 3:30 to 7 p.m.

Tours and demonstrations of its state-of-the-art Center for Simulation and Integrated Healthcare Education are planned at the facility, located in the heart of Akron's Biomedical Corridor, at 47 N. Main St. At 5 p.m., a reception and brief program are planned.

ABIA is focused on patient-centered innovation and commercialization at the intersection of biomaterials and medicine. The center is one of the largest and most comprehensive in the country — dedicated to providing simulation-based education for individuals and health care teams, with the goals of improving provider care and enhancing patient outcomes.

In its role as a founding member of the ABIA, The University of Akron is providing ongoing opportunities for faculty and students to be involved in patient-centered research in biomaterials and medicine. Other founding members are Akron Children’s Hospital, Akron General Health System, Northeast Ohio Medical University and Summa Health System. The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and the state of Ohio join the founders as partners in ABIA.

Validated parking will be provided at the Akron Public Library parking deck, located on the corner of Market and S. High streets.
