William E. Baker, professor and chair of the Department of Marketing in UA's College of Business Administration, is the recipient of a 2013 Citation of Excellence Award for an article he wrote for the Journal of Small Business Management, 2009.

"The complementary effects of market orientation and entrepreneurial orientation on profitability in small businesses" was chosen as one of the top 50 articles with proven impact since its publication date (2009 in this case to allow for citation impact to be accurately measured).

This is the 17th year that Emerald Group Publishing Limited, based in the United Kingdom, has presented the awards. Winning articles are chosen from among 15,000 papers published in the top 300 management journals in the world, including Harvard Business Review, Journal of Finance, Journal of Marketing, Strategic Management Journal and MIT Sloan Management Review.

"It was an unexpected surprise and an honor to be considered," says Baker, who will be on hand for the awards presentation, which will occur on Aug. 11 during the Academy of Management 2013 in Orlando, Fla.
