Tickets for 'Tuning In' now on sale at Thomas Hall

06/03/2013

Tickets are now on sale for "Tuning In," a heartwarming new musical premiering this August at the intimate Stage Door of The University of Akron's E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall.

Performances are Aug. 8 at 7:30 p.m., Aug. 9 at 8 p.m., and Aug. 10 at 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Reminiscent of beloved Broadway musicals, "Tuning In" is about the tussles and triumphs of a nostalgia radio station in an Ohio retirement community. The show features a 14-piece orchestra and a cast of Equity, community and student actors, singers and dancers.

George Pinney, a Tony nominee and Emmy winner, is the director and choreographer and Terry LaBolt, an acclaimed Broadway conductor, is the musical director. Emmy nominee Larry Kass wrote the music and lyrics, and Kass and Ron Newell wrote the book.

Advance-sale tickets for all four performances are $20 for general admission, $15 for seniors, $10 for groups of 10 or more and non-UA students, and free for UA students. Tickets at the door will be $20.

Tickets for a Red Carpet Party on opening night, Aug. 8, are $75. Red Carpet Party attendees will have access to an open bar and hors d'oeuvres at 6:30 p.m., VIP seating for the premiere performance at 7:30 p.m., a program listing and a "Tuning In" commemorative gift. Proceeds from the Red Carpet Party will support scholarships for UA students in music, dance and theatre.

Tickets are available at the Thomas Hall Ticket Office at 330-972-7570, Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, visit UAevents or Tuning In online.

"Tuning In" is presented by Razzmatazz Productions and The University of Akron's School of Music; School of Dance, Theatre, and Arts Administration; Kulas Concert Series; and E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall.
