Charge of the Commission
The Student Disciplinary and Law Enforcement Policy Review Commission is charged with reviewing student disciplinary and law enforcement policies and practices at The University of Akron and making recommendations to the President and the Board of Trustees for any improvements that will enable the University in the future to continue to discharge its responsibilities and maintain compliance with all applicable laws.
Specifically, the Commission will advise the President and Board of Trustees on any such improvements that will: (1) ensure fairness and transparency of the processes; (2) increase student, parental and community awareness about the processes; and (3) enhance safety and accountability for all involved in the processes.
The following methods of gathering information necessary for the Commission's comprehensive review may include, but are not limited to:
- Benchmarking against other universities' student disciplinary and law enforcement processes;
- Utilizing student, staff, faculty and community focus groups to advise the Commission;
- Reviewing recent research and scholarly publications on the subject matter;
- Reviewing available UA data and data from other institutions on student disciplinary and law enforcement processes;
- Reviewing UA's law enforcement agreements with outside agencies:
- Utilizing experts and/or consultants in the student disciplinary and higher education law enforcement fields to advise the Commission; and
- Consulting with students, faculty, staff and other University constituencies.
