Student Disciplinary and Law Enforcement
Policy Review Commission

Rev. Fowler

Background on the Commission: In a message to University faculty and staff on March 15, UA President Luis M. Proenza said that he and the University's Board of Trustees were establishing the Student Disciplinary and Law Enforcement Policy Review Commission in response to concerns raised by news reports. The commission, led by the Rev. Dr. Ronald J. Fowler (right), was charged with reviewing student disciplinary and law enforcement policies and practices at The University of Akron and making recommendations to the President and the Board of Trustees for any improvements that will enable the University in the future to continue to discharge its responsibilities and maintain compliance with all applicable laws.

Specifically, the Commission was asked to advise the President and Board of Trustees on any such improvements that will: ensure fairness and transparency of the processes; increase student, parental and community awareness about the processes; and enhance safety and accountability for all involved in the processes.
