Patrick Gaughan, JD, MBA
Executive Director, Innovation Practice Center
Patrick Gaughan graduated from Columbia University in 1985 with a major in Political Science and minor in Religion. He received his Juris Doctorate from UVA in 1989 and his Master in Business Administration from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland in 1997.
Since then, he has done business turnarounds and start-ups as an attorney, consultant, manager and investor. Since 2001, he has continuously maintained an office at the Youngstown Business Incubator. From 2003-2014, Patrick Gaughan was on the faculty at Youngstown State University. He taught courses on Entrepreneurship, New Venture Finance, New Venture Creation, Law, Management, and International Business. Additionally, Patrick Gaughan is in the process of completing his doctorate in business administration (DBA) in International Business at Cleveland State University.
In all regards, Mr. Gaughan has established a track record of facilitating student learning, integrating multidisciplinary resources, and developing viable entrepreneurial opportunities. Initially, his primary focus will be on engaging students and faculty in interdisciplinary entrepreneurship and commercialization curriculum while supporting the ramp-up of the proof of concept center.
Gopal Nadkarni, Ph.D.
Director, Proof Of Concept
Dr. Gopal Nadkarni has a Master's (Manufacturing Sciences) from the University of Waterloo, Canada, and a Ph.D. (Mechanical Engineering) from the University of New Brunswick, Canada.
From 1991-1999 he was a tenured faculty at the University of New Brunswick (Canada). His research involved ferrous materials, manufacturing as well as design/assembly of products. He was a recipient of the prestigious Best Paper award from the American Foundrymen’s Society in 1997.
In his 25 year career in the academia and industry, he has worked on research and product development, marketing and long range, sales, branding as well as implementation of supply chain for new and innovative products. His most current position prior to joining the University of Akron was as VP, Applied Technology Division at the Shale-Inland Corporation working to develop new commercial metal laminate products through a collaborative venture with the 3M Company.
Dr. Nadkarni’s passion is innovation and the exciting process of bringing new products to life, a passion he brings to his new position at The University of Akron, engaging/mentoring and working in close collaboration with students and faculty.
