Placement Testing

  • Welcome to the University of Akron!  The intent of the placement testing process is to place you appropriately into a mathematics, reading, writing or computer literacy course with a reasonable chance of success.
  • Placement tests may be taken on the Akron campus, in the testing center located in Schrank Hall North Room 152. Placement testing in Schrank Hall North Room 152 is available on a walk-in basis; reservations are not required or needed.  Please visit our website for placement testing dates and hours.
  • Placement tests may also be taken at the following UA locations. If you wish to test at one of these three locations you will need to contact the testing center directly to make arrangements for placement testing.

  • Your UAnet ID and password is required to for placement testing. i.e. you must be able to successfully log in to MyAkron to take a placement test.  If you cannot login to MyAkron please contact ZipSupport at 330.972.6888.
  • UA  Zipcard or state/government issued photo identification card/document is required for testing.  Your name and photo must be current and completely legible on the identification card/document.

Math Placement Testing

  1. Each math placement test contains 25 questions.
  2. Scratch paper/pencil is permitted during the math placement test. Calculators are not permitted during the math placement test.
  3. Each test has a time limit of 60 minutes.
  4. Each test may be taken twice.
  5. There is a practice math test available to you. You may take the practice test one time.
  6. Allow at least one week for your placement test scores to be available to your UA advisor.
  7. To ensure your privacy and in accordance with FERPA guidelines, the placement testing center cannot discuss placement test scores via telephone or email. Please schedule an appointment with a UA advisor if you wish to discuss placement test scores.
  8. The University of Akron has strict Academic Dishonesty (cheating policy). Students caught or suspected of cheating will be subject to disciplinary action by the UA Student Judicial Affairs and University Officials.

Request Math Placement Testing:

  • Click here to request registration for the Algebra, Basic Algebra, or Arithmetic & Basic Skills test
  • If you wish to take the Advanced Algebra or the Calculus Readiness placement test you will need to obtain a placement test request form from your advisor and take to Computer Based Assessment & Evaluation.

Reading, Writing, Computer Literacy Placement Testing
