Emerging Technologies

Our staff is available to participate in and assist with research opportunities in the use of emerging technologies as they relate to teaching and learning. We are constantly working to identify new ways to appropriately integrate emerging technologies into the teaching and learning process. If you are interested in learning more or want to propose a joint project, contact us today.

Examples include:

  • Internet Technologies & Web 2.0 Tools
  • Virtual worlds and 3D simulations
  • Product evaluation and testing
  • Technology tool training

Take a few minutes to look around the site. Here you will find links to our initiatives, be able to meet our people, and discover what is new. We also invite you to take a look at the Faculty Spotlights and explore the many online spaces we manage.

Virtual Worlds

We can provide consulting for the instructional use of 3D modeling, animation, and virtual worlds. Software includes Second Life, Maya, and SketchUp. We can help you get started with Second Life. 3D modeling and animation consulting involves the appropriate use of 3D models to achieve an instructional objective. We can provide development of 3D models and animation in Maya as staffing allows.

Faculty Spotlight

Stephen Brooks, Martha Conrad, William Hauser, Patricia Millhof, Lisa Pace, Lynne Pachnowski, Patricia Purcell, Paul Richert, Jana Russ, Annemarie Scarisbrick-Hauser, Dudley Turner, and Cheryl Ward have formed a Second Life Advisory Committee to explore and pilot the use of Second Life in the classroom at UA.

Virtual worlds immerse students in a 3D environment that often involves a collaborative community of avatars interacting with each other. Environments such as these provide learning opportunities that have been difficult to achieve in the past such as placing the learner in a more authentic environments and providing role playing exercises.

Contact Jana Russ for more information or to become involved in the Second Life Project at UA.
