Project Detail St. Vincent High School
St. Vincent High School is expanding the physical location of the high school. There is no classroom currently in the building. I have been given a directive by the University of Akron Provost that the room must be operational by the fall of 2005. While the space is under construction a UADL Network Cart with H.323 compatibility will be built. Once installed a new D/L classroom will be able to receive distance learning classes from the University through NeoNet fiber. Medina H.323 Backbone Converesion
The University’s current backbone with the Medina Link for distance education connections is an aging ATM system that has been in place since the programs inception in 1996. The system continually requires costly maintenance in addition to the routine high cost of renting fiber optic lines from Time Warner Cable. With the addition of new distance learning classrooms on campus and the rapidly improving H.323 technology for videoconferencing over IP networks, it is logical to convert the current Medina Fiber Link to H.323. The technology is less complex to maintain from an engineering standpoint and less costly to maintain and operate for distance connections. In addition, many of our collaborative partners are making the same conversion to H.323. It is quickly becoming the standard for videoconferencing and distance learning. This proactive conversion initiative by Distributed Education should continue to keep our distance learning programs among the nation’s elite for years to come. Springfield High School

This project entails the purchase of an enterprise-wide imaging solution to increase document control, reduce paper work, and improve departmental services. It can be used to support offices whether or not they use PeopleSoft. The first application will be the conversion of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions forms to an imaging process.
