Enterprise Management Overview
When a computer is installed by PC Services it is deployed with a standard disk image that includes the operating system, core applications, and the SMS client software. The computer is joined to the UAnet domain and receives Group Policies including those for WSUS and Windows XP Firewall settings. The McAfee EPOAgent and McAfee VirusScan are also installed.
Notes for Departmental Technical Staff
Standard Disk Images - The standard disk images used by PC Services are available to departmental technical staff by request. PC Services recommends that the standard disk images be used whenever possible. Since the standard disk images do not include departmental technical staff in the local Administrators group it is suggested that departments using the standard images update the images to include departmental staff in the local Administrators group.
Joining Computers to UAnet Domain - When a computer is joined to the UAnet domain the computer account must be moved to the appropriate Active Directory Organizational Unit in order to receive Group Policies. These policies vary depending upon whether the computer is to be used in an office or lab environment. In order to insure that a computer receives the appropriate policies please contact a member of the PC Services staff when a computer is joined to the UAnet domain.
SMS - Without human intervention it may take several hours after the SMS client has been installed before advertisements are received on the client computer. If you would rather not wait please contact PC Services so that the appropriate SMS collection memberships can be updated manually. After the collection memberships have been updated the machine policy will need to be updated on the client computer. Open the Systems Management control panel and then click on the Actions tab; select Machine Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle from the list of Actions and then click the Initiate Action button. The computer should then receive advertisements within a few minutes. |
