Windows Server Update Services
Overview
Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) replaced Microsoft Software Update Services (SUS) for deployment of Windows and Office updates. WSUS includes substantial improvements over SUS such as compliance reporting and mandatory installation requirements.
When updates are available a yellow shield icon will appear in the Windows system tray. Double-click on the icon and follow the instructions on the screen to install the updates. If you prefer, you may wait until the end of the workday and select the “Install Updates and Shutdown” option when shutting down your computer. This method is recommended.
Policies
Updates deployed via WSUS are first tested by PC Services and the PC Services software test group to ensure compatibility with UA applications and systems. In the case of a highly critical update the test phase of the deployment may be shortened.
Known Issues
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP 1 may fail to install properly when the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB886904) is installed. To resolve this issue use the Add/Remove Programs control panel to manually remove the hotfix and then retry the service pack installation.
If you are interested in the updates pushed by WSUS please check out the What's New Page. |
