A unit of Hardware Operations and Operating Systems Services division. The Distributed Technology Services (DTS) unit provides leadership in planning, development, implementation, and support services for distributed computer systems, hardware and software for the university's ubiquitous computing environment. The DTS unit consists of PC Services, the Apple Support Team, Computer Labs Support Group, Computer Repair Services and Kiosk Support. DTS provides departmental consulting and technical support for computers (desktops and laptops) and for the University standard software applications. To provide efficient and prompt service, the campus is divided into ten technology zones (listed here by buidlings), with a Technology Specialist assigned to each zone. Additionally, DTS provides the administration and technology support for the University of Akron's laptop initiative, Technology Without Boundaries. The University has selected the Dell Latitude as the laptop of choice for its TWB initiative.
The Apple Support Team provides technical support for Apple Macintosh (desktops and laptops) and for the University standard macintosh software applications. Computer Repair Services is the repair facility for most university owned computing equipment as well as the warranty vendor for computing equipment purchases through Computer Solutions, the campus computer store.
Computer Lab Services (CLS) maintains the ITS Division's General Purpose Computer Labs located in CAS 103, the Training Center located in the Computer Center 141, Bierce Library 61, 279 CLS also maintain 3 Mobile Laptop Checkouts located at the Student Union Information Window, Bierce Library Laptop Checkout, ASEC Library Laptop Checkout. CLS also maintains mobile teaching labs in Leigh Hall, and Zook Hall
