1. How much space do I have?

Each person with a UAnet ID will be provided 50 MB of space.

2. How can I check how much space I have used?

In Windows, checking how much space you have used is very simple. Highlight all the files and folders in your area and right click on them, then click properties.

3. Is there a way to access my ZipSpace from Linux?

Newer versions of the KDE Konqueror web browser seem to work quite well (use webdavs for the protocol). We have also tested a command line client called cadaver with good success. This and other open source WebDAV products are listed at http://www.webdav.org/projects/

4. Is there a way to access my ZipSpace from a Mac?

OS 10.4.x and up:

In the Finder under the Go menu select Connect to Server.
In the dialog box that appears type https://gozips.uakron.edu/your-uanet-id
When prompted, authenticate using your uanet id and password.

OS 10.3.x and below:

We have tested the Goliath software with good success. This and other open source WebDAV products are listed at http://www.webdav.org/projects/

5. Can I get to my files in labs?

Yes, as part of this project we mapped the Windows MY DOCUMENTS folder on the workstations in most of the labs to your ZipSpace. This includes the laptops available for signout in the the Library, Student Union, etc. If you are using a computer that does not have the MY DOCUMENTS link pointing to your ZipSpace you can still access it through the browser.

6. Can I get to my files from home / off campus?

Yes. WebDAV is a web-based service and is available over the Internet. It is possible to run into access problems from locations where software providing the necessary levels of encryption (128 bits) is not available. This is most commonly seen with very old versions of Internet Explorer.

7. If I accidentally delete a file from my storage space can it be restored?

NO. We are backing up the ZipSpace servers but the backups are suitable for general disaster recovery purposes only. You are STRONGLY ADVISED to keep your own backups of all your important files.

8. Will the address for my personal home pages change?

No. After the conversion your personal web pages will still be available on a server at http://gozips.uakron.edu/~your-uanet-id

9. Some of the files I had on the old GoZips server are not on the new system. Where did they go?

Only the personal home page files from the old system were copied. Other types of files were not migrated. Also, in a handful of cases there were some conflicts between file names that are permitted on UNIX and those used on a Windows server. You can request assistance with retrieving these files by sending an e-mail to zipspace@uakron.edu

10. Where can I find more information on how to use my ZipSpace online storage?

Instructions are available at: http://www.uakron.edu/its/learning/training/OnlineStorage.php

11. What will happen to my UNIX shell account?

It will be deactivated as it will not be needed anymore.

12. I am having problems copying files or saving new documents to my ZipSpace.

Check your current disk space usage; you may be over your quota (See #2 above on how to check your current disk space usage) If you continue to have problems; please contact the support desk at (330) 972-6888 or consult@uakron.edu

13. How do I map a network drive to my ZipSpace?

This functionality is only available to computers (Windows 2000, Windows XP) on the University network (including VPN). You can either map a network drive or use a UNC name to access your ZipSpace.

UNC: Click Start-> RUN and enter \\uanet.edu\zipspace\first-character-of your-uanet-id\uanetid
Example: if your UANET id is mcgates: \\uanet.edu\zipspace\m\mcgates

Network drive mapping: Open Windows explorer, click tools and scroll down to map network drive. Choose a drive letter and enter the UNC name described in the example above.

14. What do I name my web page?

The web server is configured to automatically load the following pages in this order:
  1. default.html
  2. default.htm
  3. index.html
  4. index.htm
  5. home.html
Each directory below your www folder will automatically load a file with one of the above listed names.

15. Where do I put my web pages and graphics?

Anything you want to be viewable by others via the web must be placed in your www folder (or a subdirectory of it).
