Information Technology Services is pleased to announce the new ZipSpace facility that will provide 50 MB of disk space on the network file system for each student, faculty and staff member. This will replace the much smaller space previously allotted for personal web pages, and is in addition to the storage provided for email. You can access this space securely from anywhere on the Internet (including the campus wireless network), and you can use it for storing all kinds of files.
A specially designated area of your personal storage space is used for your personal web pages. Your web pages must be located in the special /www subdirectory in order to be accessible from the Internet. Files which are not intended to be available on the web should not be stored in your /www directory. All of your current web pages will be automatically transferred into this directory during the conversion. After the conversion, your personal web pages will have the same web address as before (e.g. http://gozips.uakron.edu/~uanetid). Publishing your web site will be as simple as saving your files in a folder – no more ftp clients needed! For your convenience, the ftp service will remain available until the end of the Spring Semester.
The implementation of this new service is slated to take place over Spring Break. The conversion of personal home pages will require taking that server offline for approximately one day. We will send out a notice with a more definite schedule as the implementation date approaches. Please visit the ZipSpace Frequently Asked Questions page at
