COMPUTER BASED ASSESSMENT & EVALUTION |
The office of Computer Based Assessment & Evaluation provides services in the design, development and deployment of online tests, surveys and assessments. It is the mission of CBA&E to fulfill online assessment needs of the University of Akron community by maintaining standardized procedures and services that support the University’s standards of academic responsibility while retaining sensitivity to the individual examinee. CBA&E provides services to faculty, students, prospective students and tests for job applicants from Human Resource office.
Computer Based Assessment offers a secure location and a controlled environment for testing outside of the classroom thus allowing professors full use of their scheduled lecture time towards their course material. Faculty/instructor(s) setup their tests and established a window for testing and the test application system takes care of administering/scoring the tests and recording all of the student responses, grades, log in/out time, time take on test and all other data pertaining to the student test record. Student grades are available to the instructor via the web to print and/or download the data as needed. Several test models are available and each model offers features that give the instructor a great deal of flexibility in managing tests and students. The office also provides testing for distance learning courses offered at the University. In addition, CBAE also provides testing to most high schools in summit county region that are involved with distance learning classes provided by the University.
There are benefits to the students including the ability to select a convenient time outside the scheduled class meetings to take tests, instant feedback of test results, opportunities to retest and, in some cases, information such as a coaching report regarding the need for content remediation. Through the testing data collection the office and faculty use the data to evaluate and analyze test questions and responses as well as research assessment activities to provide effective evaluation and collaboration to the University community.
Prospective students, who have been accepted to The University of Akron and are planning to attend an orientation session, may be required to take one or several placement tests. Practice for each of the tests can be found at the following web site.
