- General Questions
- How is PeopleSoft v8 different from the current version used on campus?
PeopleSoft v8 creates an enterprise-wide web-based system
This upgrade from 7.6 to v8 of the PeopleSoft will make the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system entirely web-based. That means that faculty and staff will access PeopleSoft via a web browser and transact business online. No longer will the PeopleSoft application have to be installed on the user's desktop.
- Is training available for the new system?
Training materials for the new system are already available, and instructor-led seminars are being scheduled now. Please see the ITS Training website to view the training manuals, schedule a seminar, or download the computer-based tutorials.
- Can I use my Macintosh with the new system?
Yes. Please see the question about hardware and software requirements for details.
- I am experiencing problems logging into PeopleSoft. I have entered a valid ID and password and I have cookies enabled. However, the page just seems to keep trying to load and nothing happens.
Clear your computer’s cache and see if this solves the problem. If you are using Internet Explorer, you can find instructions on clearing cache at the Software Training website. If you are using another browser, use the browser’s Help facility and search for “clear cache.”
- I am running a report in PeopleSoft and viewing the results in Excel format. However, the file opens in Internet Explorer (as an Excel spreadsheet) rather than opening in Excel. How do I get the data to open within Excel?
Follow this link for instruction on modifying your settings so that spreadsheets open in Excel rather than in the browser, www.uakron.edu/its/learning/IEBasics.php. You will want to either print the pdf file or watch the tutorial listed under Configuring Office applications to open in the appropriate Office Program.
- When running a query, after I save and hit “Run,” nothing happens.
Having “popups” disabled can cause this problem. If your browser has popups disabled or you have a toolbar like Yahoo or Goggle that blocks popups, you will need to enable popups.
- After I log in, I receive this message, Webserver appears to be incorrectly configured. What should I do?
You will first want to delete cookies and clear your cache. If you are using Internet Explorer (IE), you can find instructions on how to do this at the Software Training’s IE Basics website.
If you are still receiving that error, you will need to make sure that you have cookies enabled. For instructions on how to do that, please refer to the Enable Cookies PDF.
- ZipLine (Portal) Questions
- I am experiencing difficulty logging into the portal. After entering my ID and password, I receive an error message "You must have cookies enabled to sign in."
You need to enable cookies. If you are using Internet Explorer, you can find instructions on enabling cookies at the Software Training website. If you are using another browser, use the browser’s Help facility and search for "clear cache."
- Technical Questions
- What are the minimum hardware and software requirements for using the new system?
Requirements vary according to how the system would be accessed.
Access to PeopleSoft v8 and the ZipLine portal requires a machine capable of running a web browser. Any hardware that can run a minimum of Internet Explorer 5.5 or Netscape Navigator 4.47 should be fine.
The minimum recommended hardware requirements for Outlook 2000 are a Pentium II with 64 MB RAM and 150 MB free disk space. Outlook 2000 will run on MS Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0 (with Service Pack 3 or later), 2000 or XP.
PLEASE NOTE: The requirements listed above are those for Outlook by itself, and NOT the whole MS Office suite. The complete MS Office 2000 suite requires a 300-MHz Pentium processor, 64 MB of RAM and 1 GB of free disk space
- What versions of browsers are supported?
The recommended browser for PeopleSoft v8 and ZipLine is Internet Explorer.
- How do I make Internet Explorer my default browser?
Follow this link www.uakron.edu/its/learning/training/IEBasics.php. Page 5 of the Internet Options pdf file contains instructions on setting Internet Explorer as the default browser. A tutorial is also provided under Internet Options, which demonstrates this process.
- Security Questions
- How should I set up my password for proper security?
To help ensure proper security of the University’s wireless and hard wired networks, you must use passwords with a combination of upper and lower case letters and numbers. Passwords should be something that is not in the dictionary, like two words with capitals and numbers intermixed. Passwords that are made up of common words can be cracked in less than an hour and a half.
