The Lawyer-to-Law Mentor Program was established several years ago in conjunction with the University Liaison Committee of the Akron Bar Association. The program pairs first-year law students with experienced attorneys. The program's primary goal is to give students a greater exposure to the practice of law, thereby deepening and enriching their substantive legal education. Attorney mentors are encouraged to provide students with opportunities to observe and discuss the day-to-day realities of the practice of law.
This program is one way in which the School of Law and the Akron Bar Association are making good faith efforts to help bridge the gap between the realities of law practice and the theoretical environment of law school. For more information, please contact Barbara Weinzierl, Director of Career Planning and Placement.
The Student Bar Association (SBA) and the Admissions Office administer the Student Mentor Program. The Admissions Office works with SBA officers to pair entering students with upper-division students who share similar backgrounds and interests. This program is a valuable social and educational experience for both mentors and the first-year students.
If you are admitted to the upcoming entering class and you pay your seat deposit, you will receive more information on the Student Mentor Program approximately six weeks before new law student orientation begins.
