| Born in Montana, Margaret Hauge Rakas grew up in Minneapolis. Mrs. Rakas is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of The College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, Minnesota and she completed a post-graduate internship in Medical Technology leading to MT (ASCP) certification. Mrs. Rakas married Captain Albert S. Rakas and spent twenty years making a home for them and their three children in such diverse places as the Japanese Alps, Heidelberg and Munich, Germany, the desert of West Texas, the south side of Chicago and Charlottesville, Virginia. Mrs. Rakas and her family arrived in Akron in 1971 when Colonel Rakas retired from the Army and began teaching at The University of Akron School of Law. Mrs. Rakas volunteered for ten years at Hower House creating a museum catalog of the furnishings. In 1986, Mrs. Rakas received an Award for Individual Achievement from the Ohio Society of Historical Societies and Museums for creating the catalog and a computer program to track their value and placement in the House. She presently volunteers as a coach with SeniorNet, an international organization that helps seniors learn how to use computers. Mrs. Rakas is also active with the Women’s Committee of The University of Akron. |
