Elizabeth A. Reilly received her undergraduate degree cum laude in English Language and Literature from Princeton University in its first class of women and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She then received her law degree from The University of Akron School of Law where she remains the only individual to graduate from the School of Law with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Upon graduation, she was in private practice with the Akron firm of Whitaker & Reilly and also served as an adjunct faculty member for The University of Akron School of Law until she joined the faculty of the School of Law on a full-time basis in 1984. After promotions leading to a full professorship in 1992, she accepted her current position as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in 1995. Dean Reilly was named a C. Blake McDowell, Jr. Professor of Law in 1999. An outstanding and gifted teacher as exemplified by her receipt of the 2004 Outstanding Teacher-Scholar Award from The University of Akron and the 2004 Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education Award for Teaching Excellence, Dean Reilly teaches Torts, co-teaches and coordinates Introduction to Law and Legal Systems, and co-teaches and coordinates Sexual Orientation and the Law. In addition to teaching excellence, Dean Reilly is equally committed to excellence in scholarship. She is a prolific writer who also regularly presents lectures and scholarly presentations at both academic and professional conferences. For example, in 2005, Dean Reilly served as a presenter at two academic conferences – at the 2005 National Lavender Law Conference where she served on a panel on problems of intersexuality and the law and at the 2005 Symposium on Intersex Education, Advocacy, and the Law with her presentation on “Radical Tweak: Relocating the Power to Assign Sex.” Her service contributions are also notable including selection as an inaugural member of the Academic Leadership Forum for The University of Akron. Dean Reilly’s service in professional organizations is similarly distinctive. For example, she has served on the Board of Trustees of the Akron Bar Association, as a member of the Ohio Supreme Court on the Rules Advisory Committee, and as a member of the Ohio State Bar’s Council of Delegates. Dean Reilly and her husband, Scott who is also an attorney, are the proud parents of two daughters.
