The Graduates One significant test of the quality of a law school is the professional success of its graduates. Since 1925, Akron Law has graduated over 6,000 men and women. They have gone on to careers of distinction as private practitioners, government servants, corporate counsel and as members of the federal, state, and municipal judiciary. Several have also chosen to use their legal knowledge and training to advance their careers in such diverse fields as health care, real estate, urban planning and nonprofit management. A few of Akron Law's many esteemed representatives are highlighted in brief profiles throughout the pages of this web site. The Law Alumni Association The Law Alumni Association was incorporated in 1973 as a nonprofit organization. It is open to all Akron Law graduates and is governed by an alumni board of trustees who meet six times per year.
The primary goal of the Akron Law Alumni Association is to provide and maintain a link between Akron Law, current law students and its graduates. The association strives to attain that goal through publications such as Akron Law magazine, alumni e-letter and an online alumni directory; and the planning, funding and promotion of alumni activities such as area socials, class reunions, the annual Alumni Dinner and the Outstanding Alumni Awards. The association also lends its support to law students, including cooperation with the Student Bar Association and its activities.
The Board also selects annual grant proposals for funding from law student organizations and law school departments, such as Admissions and Career Planning. The Attorney/Student Mentor Program The school's long-standing attorney/student mentor program was established in conjunction with the University Liaison Committee of the Akron Bar Association. The program pairs students with experienced attorneys. The program's primary goal is to give students a greater exposure to the actual practice of law, thereby hopefully deepening and enriching their substantive legal education. Attorney mentors are encouraged to provide students with opportunities to observe and discuss the day to day realities of the practice of law.
This program continues to be a superlative way in which Akron Law and the Akron Bar Association are making good faith efforts to help bridge the gap between the realities of law practice, in many of its forms, and the theoretical and analytical concepts of a legal education.

The Dean's Club Many alumni, when giving back financially, acknowledge the significant role that Akron Law had in their success. The Dean's Club, established as a vehicle for annual donations to Akron Law, has evolved into the overall recognition mechanism for private support from alumni and friends of the School. It recognizes both annual giving and special one-time gifts.
A variety of needs at the School are met by private support, including scholarships, student loans, the trial and appellate advocacy teams, the law library and visits of distinguished lecturers.
Also, many donors have contributed restricted funds designated for particular purposes, such as academic awards and endowed chairs. Most of these funds are named for the donor or for an individual the donor has chosen to honor or memorialize.
Therefore, not only does this private support benefit individuals through general scholarships and awards, but it also enriches the entire academic experience by providing for extracurricular activities and curricular enhancements. Continuing Legal Education Licensed attorneys are required to report their continuing legal education to state-reporting agencies and/or courts.
Akron Law regularly offers CLE programming in Ohio and elsewhere for its alumni.
Further, Akron Law and the Akron Bar Association have a joint CLE program. More than 100 hours per year are available. This program includes live presentation, videos, and summer golf packages. Excellent materials and insights to help with the transition from law school to law practice are provided. |
