Lawyer-to-Law Mentor Program

First Year Law Students:

Would you like the opportunity to get a glimpse beyond the study of law into the practice of law?
The Akron Bar Association’s Liaison Committee has an exciting opportunity for you to begin networking with and learning from practicing attorneys. The 2009 Mentor Program pairs lawyers with U of A law students to create a mentoring relationship through which the Mentor provides guidance and shares practical knowledge about the legal profession.

The program involves the mentor and the law student participating in activities selected from the activity pool which meet your particular needs and goals as self-identified, such as jointly visiting the courthouse or visiting the mentor’s law firm. The mentor and law student initially create their individualized plan, which will consist of five activities you chose to meet the particular practice setting of the mentor and your individual goals. You and your mentor will have February through October to complete the activities. At the end of that time and upon completion of the selected activities you will receive a certificate of completion at the concluding event in the fall of 2009.

The Kick-Off event will take place on Wednesday, January 28, 2008 from 5:30-6:30 in the law school atrium. This event which will include both the law students and the attorney provide an introduction to the program and a packet of program materials.
