There are many Career Planning & Placement Office (CPPO) programs that we are working on to provide you with maximum career opportunities. One of the most exciting of these is the On-Campus Interview (OCI) Interview Program. I would urge you to pay very close attention to the hiring criteria. Only apply to firms where you meet their hiring criteria. Should you have an interest in a particular firm where, unfortunately, you do not presently meet their hiring criteria, please consult me.
Two of the most frequently asked questions regarding the OCI Program deal with transcripts and writing samples. The below-listed information attempts to clarify these areas.
Transcripts
1. Question: Do I need a transcript for each and every employer that requests such or do I simply turn in one transcript to the CPPO?
Answer: You need to respond with a transcript for each and every employer who requests such.
2. Do I need an official transcript?
Answer: An unofficial transcript will do, generally, unless you are specifically asked for an official transcript. To obtain an unofficial transcript, please visit the registrar's page for additional information.
Writing Samples
Obviously you want to use the best work product you have produced and be cognizant of information which is confidential. The order after that would be as follows:
Brief - real case preferred or if not available use a simulated (ILC or moot court) brief.
Pleadings/Motions/Summary Judgments - real case preferred, if not available use a simulated case.
Memos, again a real case is preferred, if not available, use a simulated case.
Papers (GWR, Law Review comments/case notes)
Resume and Cover Letters
I am available to work with you on your resume, cover letter, or other questions and concerns you may have about the On-Campus Interview Program. I sincerely hope that you will use this program as an opportunity to further your career.
Practice Interview Program
A Practice Interview Program (formerly called the Mock Interview Program) will be held in the spring semester. This program is designed to assist students enhance their interviewing skills. I urge you to consider signing up for this Program. All interviews will be with an attorney who is a member of the Akron Bar Association and will take place in their office. Interviews are designed to last approximately one half hour. Please note that you can sign up for the Practice Interview Program even if you will not be participating in the OCI Program, but want to sharpen your interviewing skills for posted jobs, etc.
