The Constitutional Law Resource Center and the John F. Seiberling Chair in Constitutional Law

In 1986, in anticipation of the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution, the United States Congress established Constitutional Law Centers at four law schools. The University of Akron School of Law was proud to be selected as one of those centers designed to fund resource centers for constitutional law and public education. The primary purpose of the Center is to promote scholarship concerning the U.S. Constitution, to commemorate the creation of that document, and to help illuminate its application to modern times. The Center houses the John F. Seiberling Chair in Constitutional Law, sponsors conferences, conducts research on constitutional law issues and hosts the Ralph Regula Lecture. Past symposia have included "John Bingham and the Meaning of the Fourteenth Ammendment" and "Education and the Constitution: Shaping Each Other and the Next Century." The 2007 symposium is entitled "The New Face of Women's Legal History".

Richard L. Aynes, former Dean of the School of Law, holds the John F. Seiberling Chair in Constitutional Law. Professor Aynes publishes in the areas of Constitutional Law (especially the 14th Amendment) and Legal History.
