Computer Solutions

Located on the second floor of the University's Student Union this is where you can get help in choosing and ordering discounted new hardware and peripherals. This is also where you can purchase steeply discounted software from several vendors including Microsoft, Adobe and FREE McAfee antivirius.

The University also offers discounted Time Warner Broadband Cable Modem Service which can be paid for at Computer Solutions.

SCSS

The School of Law computer support team helps students with basic computer problems. Student Computer Support Services (SCSS) is where students can get a higher level of software support as well as basic hardware troubleshooting and testing.

ExamSoft

Please note the minimum system requirements on the ExamSoft page. In addition to these you must be confident that your machine is stable (virus and malware free at a minimum) and that you have a good network connection (wireless works quite well) with which to download and submit your exam.

As of June 12, 2007 students may use laptops running the Microsoft Vista operating system. Installation is the same as previous windows operating systems but you might get an Error 1721 message. You can ignore the error and ExamSoft should work fine.

Apple Boot Camp is beta software and we do not support it or, by extension, ExamSoft on any Mac. Boot Camp will be a standard part of Apple's next release of their OS which is due out in Spring of 2007. At that time we will investigate the viability of using Boot Camp as a Macintosh ExamSoft solution.

FAQs for ExamSoft

Wireless

The University of Akron has a wireless network that covers the entirety of campus. This network, tsunami, is secured using Cisco's LEAP authentication protocol. If you have recently purchased a new laptop chances are good that it's built-in wireless supports this protocol. Here is a list of known wireless hardware that is compatible with the University network.

If you have an older machine and need to purchase a wireless card for it we recommend that you visit Computer Solutions on the second floor of the Student Union where they have cards in stock that are compatible with the campus network. You can then bring your machine to Law 267 and have the School of Law computer support team setup your connection.

**Important** Regardless of your hardware LEAP requires a non-Windows utility to manage your wireless connection. If you are unsure of what utility to use or how to configure it please come see Computer Support in Law 267.

All Apple hardware with built-in wireless supports LEAP authentication.

Printing in the School of Law

Students can print from their own laptops using the campus wireless network and one of the three School of Law pay-to-print stations. The current charge is 7 cents per print. Students are provided a printing allowance per semester including summer school.
