Five joint degree programs are available in conjunction with the College of Business Administration, the Department of Public Administration and Urban Studies, and the Ray C. Juris Doctor/Master in Business Administration
Juris Doctor/Master in Taxation
Juris Doctor/Master in Public Administration
Juris Doctor/Master of Science and Management in Human Resources
Juris Doctor/Master in Applied Politics
To pursue a joint degree program, the student must be admitted to the School of Law and the Graduate School for the College of Business Administration, the Department of Public Administration and Urban Studies or the Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics.
The total amount of time required to complete a joint degree program is shorter than the time required to complete both degrees independently because preapproved courses are transferable between the departments.
The student should contact each department independently for information concerning criteria and procedures. Individuals with baccalaureate degrees in any field of study are eligible to apply.
Career Opportunities for J.D./M.B.A., J.D./M.S.M. - H.R., J.D./M. Tax, and J.D./M.P.A. may include areas such as corporate law, business, academic development, tax accounting, human resources and employment, corporate finance, insurance and risk management, international affairs, trade and investment, or legal practice in government.
The Master of Public Administration (MPA) program at The University of Akron prepares students for public service management positions in local, state or federal government as well as a variety of human service and nonprofit organizations. The benefit of the JD/MPA degree is that the student will be prepared for the increasing number of positions in the public sector that prefer, or require, a law degree. The legal training received in the School of Law, along with the social science training received in the Department of Public Administration and Urban Studies, will strengthen a student's education and better prepare him/her for job opportunities.
