Degree Requirements - LL.M. Program

30 credits required for graduation*

* TRANSFER OF IP COURSEWORK FROM J.D. TO LL.M. PROGRAM:

Up to 9 credits of IP coursework completed at the J.D. level with a grade of “B” or higher at any A.B.A. approved law school within the past three years may be applied toward these 30 credits.

-OR-

Up to 12 credits of IP coursework completed at the J.D. level with a grade of “B” or higher at THE UNIVERSITY OF AKRON SCHOOL OF LAW within the past three years ONLY FOR THOSE WHO ALSO HAVE AKRON’S IP CERTIFICATE may be applied to these 30 credits.

Approval must be obtained in advance from the Director of the IP Center, and is dependent upon the quality of the student's previous academic performance as well as the content of the coursework taken.

One-year, Full-time Program (day or evening):

Fall Semester 12 credits
Spring Semester 12 credits
Summer Session** 6 credits
TOTAL 30 credits

Two-year, Part-time Program (day or evening)

Fall Semester 6 credits
Spring Semester 6 credits
Summer Session** 3 credits
TOTAL 15 credits per year
   

The part-time program will normally be completed in three to four years. Nine credits of thesis and policy are required.

**Summer credits can be used to complete the internship/externship and/or thesis requirements, as determined by the student and his/her advisor.
