On Friday, October 3, 2014, Judge Benita Y. Pearson, United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, served as The University of Akron School of Law’s 2014 Jurist in Residence. Judge Pearson participated in several classes at Akron Law, including Trial Advocacy, Constitutional Law, and Professional Responsibility. Students, faculty and administrators also enjoyed casual conversation with Judge Pearson at lunch. Nominated by President Barack Obama and sworn in on December 27, 2010, Judge Pearson became the first African- American woman to hold a federal judgeship in Ohio.
