Biography

Ann Schiavone joined The University of Akron School of Law in 2009 as Assistant Professor of Legal Writing and Research.  She teaches a variety of courses including Legal Analysis, Research & Writing I & II, Legislative Drafting, and seminars in Sexual Orientation & the Law, and Animal Law.  Professor Schiavone also chairs the Law School Admissions Committee. Prior to joining Akron Law, she was with Duquesne University School of Law since 2007.  At Duquesne, she taught Legal Research and Writing as an Adjunct Professor and was the Assistant Coach for the Mock Trial Team.  She also was an in-house legal counsel for Home Loan Services, Inc., a subsidiary of Bank of America where she managed litigation matters for the mortgage servicing company.  Professor Schiavone received her B.A., summa cum laude, from St. Vincent College and her J.D., magna cum laude, from Duquesne University School of Law.  Prior to joining Duquesne University and Home Loan Services, Professor Schiavone was an associate litigation attorney at Kirkpatrick & Lockhart LLP and Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC.  She also taught at St. Vincent College, Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics, and Government as an economics and writing tutor, as well as an undergraduate teaching assistant for political science.  Professor Schiavone has co-authored  an article on the Survey of Pennsylvania Privacy and Related Claims Against the Media in (2005-06) and made a conference presentation on  Innovative Legislation in Pennsylvania:  The Domestic Violence Health Care Response Act of 1998, at the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 2001 National Conference held in San Francisco, Calif.  She has served as the legislative assistant to the Honorable Jane Clare Orie in the Pennsylvania State Senate and House of Representatives from 1998-2003 and has won a long list of academic awards.  Professor Schiavone is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar. In addition she is a member  of the Angel Ridge Animal Rescue Board of Directors and a member of the St. Vincent College Law Society Board of Directors. Professor Schiavone is also a member of the following honor societies:  Alpha Lambda Delta, Alpha Chi, Phi Alpha Theta, Omicron Delta Epsilon.
