James D. Troxell focuses his practice on technology, licensing, trade secrets, trademarks, copyright, and Internet and computer law. He represents manufacturers, utilities and distribution businesses as well as clients in the financial services, health care, hospitality and leisure industries with matters involving his practice focus.

Mr. Troxell’s work includes handling transactions and disputes involving technology and patent licensing, infringement of intellectual property rights, information systems, Internet, software development, trademark prosecution, and trade secret protection and misappropriation.

Mr. Troxell has significant experience in a variety of intellectual property and technology matters, with a particular focus on transactional counseling in technology matters. His engagements involve intellectual property aspects of mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt offerings, outsourcing, consulting, information systems development. He has extensive and specific practice experience handling the development of licensing and acquisition agreements for computer software and other industrial technologies; Internet and Web site hosting agreements; Internet domain name acquisition, disputes and infringement; publishing agreements and copyright disputes.

Mr. Troxell also has counseled clients concerning intellectual property prosecution, protection, registration, infringement and enforcement; unauthorized use of third party intellectual property elements; public domain status of works; trademark availability, prosecution, infringement and licensing; and intellectual property litigation counsel, strategy and prosecution.

Mr. Troxell’s most recent assignments involved patent, trademark and copyright infringements, trade secret misappropriation, e-business planning and implementation, supply chain, large system redesign and outsourcing for major US corporations. Other recent engagements involved forensic examinations of computer systems and accusations of misconduct by high profile executives.

Mr. Troxell has been a recipient of the Crain’s Cleveland Business Leader in Technology Award.

He is a member of the advisory council for the University of Akron School of Law’s Center for Intellectual Property Law, an organization dedicated to providing students with a first-class education in the field of intellectual property law.

Troxell is a member of both the American and Ohio State Bar Associations’ Sections of Intellectual Property Law. He also is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and IEEE Computer Society and the Computer Law Association.
