Richard Haas is a self-employed attorney practicing in the areas of alternative dispute resolution, technology licensing, intellectual property, securities, aviation, and food & drug. Most recently, he served as the director of the Center for Intellectual Property at The University of Akron School of Law in 1997 and 1998. He has also been Patent Counsel for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber company (1960—1985) and held various corporate management positions in manufacturing and sales throughout the 1950s. Prior to these management positions, Richard was a patent attorney with Union Carbide & Carbon Corp from 1948 to 1950.

In addition to his extensive experience in intellectual property law, Richard also has over 15 years of experience in ADR (as an arbitrator, mediator, early neutral evaluator, and fact finder) for Ohio and Federal Court, the American Arbitration Association, the Better Business Bureau, Securities Exchanges (NYSE, AMEX, MSRB, NASD), the Akron Bar Association, and a municipal law department. He has seen approximately 350 ADR cases (70% commercial and tort, 30% Securities, Technology Licensing, and Intellectual Property). His experience also includes arbitration claims ranging to $3 million.

Richard is admitted to the New York Bar (1949), the Ohio Bar (1964), the US Patent & Trademark Office (1950), the U.S. Supreme Court Bar (1970), the U.S. 6th Circuit (1975), and the Canadian Patent Office (1978).

Richard earned his BS from MIT (1943) and his JD from Harvard Law School (1948).
